Dr. Joseph Gaugler - Aligning Technology with Dementia Caregiver Needs

In a recent MassAITC webinar, we were honored to host Dr. Joseph Gaugler, the Robert L. Kane Endowed Chair in Long-Term Care and Aging at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Gaugler is also a distinguished university professor and serves as the director of the Center for Healthy Aging and Innovation. His presentation, "Aligning Technology with Dementia Caregiver Needs," delved into the practical applications and challenges of using technology in dementia care. Dr. Gaugler discussed findings from his research, including the implementation of remote activity monitoring systems and the guide model for collaborative dementia care. He highlighted the potential of technology to support caregivers and enhance the quality of life for those living with dementia, while also pointing out the cultural and practical challenges that need addressing to make technological solutions more effective and user-friendly. Key takeaways included the importance of personalized technology solutions that adapt to the needs of caregivers and patients throughout the progression of dementia.
